![]() Quick foray into the sound design bit before i leave: a lot of sounds here rely on FM synthesis involving sine wave as the carrier and another as modulator then distorted. Rattlesnakes: this one is a little different, but there's a sort of cheesy grandioseness to the progression that's good for this mood due to a (unexpected) major I, another nice sound to me. also note how these progressions completely cycle through the whole songs. you hear it more in classical musicįiring My Lazer: i - i/5 - VI - V7. that V7 pulls really strongly and almost cheesily towards resolution. most of the time we avoid dominant 7ths unless we're doing something specific, and it is a particular sound hallmark which identifies something that sounds early dubstepish. the IV - III - VI motion (in major) = the VI - V - I motion (in minor) and makes it sound less traditionally western i guess, for lack of a better way to put it i have a particular fondness for this sound. ![]() The progressions we have here is (in minor, which i hear it in): vi V7 I VII. it centers around the IV chord in major/VI chord in minor in a particular way which is evocative of a lot of anime OPs and Japanese pop songs i don't have a better way to put it, but 1. Still Remaining: this uses a pretty "japanesey" sounding chord progression. i'll dive into the sound design which makes this sound old and pleasant as well and maybe also try my hand at making a section which is evocative of this, but until then coolĭeeper analysis to come, because i've got to go to school, but here are a couple of harmonic analyses. I remember listening to thrownness before i got into production, like 4 - 5 years ago. I want to see if he wants to get back into making music, he lives relatively close to me) ( Edit he’s actually from Oregon, I thought he was from the UK because his music ended up on a UK YouTube channel. If you know of Vexare, please comment, he’s not particularly popular and I’ve never met someone who knows his stuff outside of the friends I’ve shown it to <3 ![]() If you end up liking his style, my favorite tracks of his are Lanterns The Silent Majority and The Clockmaker I’d love to take a modern twist on his style, kind of my way of carrying on his legacy. Here here and here are some of his tracks that have the cool progressions/ chord types that I’m talking about. His chord structures catch the ear off guard, but in a pleasant way. (Full disclosure/warning he does have that ultra cringey gritty 2011 dubstep sound that we all used to love on Laptop speakers with Mountain Dew, Doritos and COD at 2 am) And I had totally forgotten about him until I logged back into my old SoundCloud and the memories came rushing back. He’s the reason I got into producing, and the first edm artist I ever liked.
